In the United States, the Summer Retreat program is drawing to fruition. The fortunate students who were able to spend a month at the retreat center in the United States had the opportunity this weekend to enjoy Lama Dance.

The retreat is the same as the Buddha in the Palm of Your Hand (Sangye Lak Chang), revealed by Tertön Migyur Dorje, which our late root teacher, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, worked so hard to preserve. Those familiar with His Holiness’ biography know, that if it were not for His Holiness’ efforts in collecting the scattered texts back together, the retreat would not be possible. (Read more).

As according to His Holiness’ instructions and with his blessing, His Eminence Khentul Gyankhang Tulku Rinpoche granted all the Nam Chö empowerments as well as the Nam Chö Ngöndrö teachings and instructions.

Khen Rinpoche Tenzin Norgyay gave teachings and instructions on Tsa Lung inner heat practices. Khen Rinpoche Tsewang Gyatso granted the Tsa Lung empowerment (a prerequisite for students wishing to take the Tsa Lung course), as well as all the Dzogchen instructions for Tögyal and Trechö.

This is the thirteenth year of retreat as our late Holiness Penor Rinpoche started this retreat in 1998 It has continued until now unbroken, with the blessings of the lineage.

Meanwhile, in Namdroling Monastery in South India, the monks continue to follow the traditional rainy season retreat known as “Yarney.” During this time period, the monks do not go out of the monastery, but remain in practice for one month.

His Holiness Karma Kuchen Rinpoche and all Palyul tulkus, khenpos, lamas, nuns, and students offer their strong heart-felt prayers for the victims of the recent earthquake.

This quake occurred in North Eastern Kham in an area historically called Gapa (once known as the Nangchen Kingdom). The Chinese name for the area is the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous region of Qinghai Province. This is very close to Amdo; Tharthang Monastery (also called Palyul Monastery) is close to the epicenter. The worst hit areas are Kye-ku-do of Qinghai and Dza Chu Kha of Sichuan Province. His Holiness Penor Rinpoche’s close friend, His Eminence Choeje Ayang Rinpoche, is from the area. His Eminence’s South Indian monastery is in the same area as Namdroling.

There was no damage at all in Palyul Monastery although the quake was felt there. We will update this page if and when we learn more.

The Kudung (holy body) of the late His Holiness Penor Rinpoche is preserved in the second story of Zangdog Palri Temple in Namdroling Monastery.

At present, there is a big question that arises in the minds of all the well-wishers and faithful students of the late His Holiness Penor Rinpoche regarding the construction of Kudung Chorten (the stupa that preserves the Holy Body of His Holiness).

Hence the top level authorities of Namdroling Monastery have come up with the final decision of planning the construction of the Kudung Chorten, mainly at Namdroling Monastery, India and Palyul Monastery, Tibet. If possible, there will be Kudung Chortens in Europe, the United States, Taiwan, and Bodhgaya, India. Therefore, when this noble project starts, there will be an official announcement through all the possible medium of communication including [this] website.

As the Anniversary of the Parinirvana of our Root Guru, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, approaches, we thought it would be useful to provide the advice for how our Palyul Centers can commemorate this day so that all who wish to join in prayers may easily do so. On these days we can all join together as one heart, and strengthen our connection to His Holiness.

In Namdroling we are carrying through the practice and puja of the Hundred Deities for the full day starting from 14th and continuing through the 18th of March 2010.

For our centers, we are advising Guru Yoga practice followed by Vajrasattva or Hundred Deities practice. You may accumulate the Short Swift Rebirth Prayer as much as you can, particularly on 16th of March. This is the main day of the Parinirvana in the Lunar Calendar. If you can, then continue for three days with this practice.

We all hope every one can enjoy practice together for the Swift Rebirth of our most beloved Root Guru, His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. May the Light of His Reincarnation illuminate all of Cyclic Existence, Samsara, clearing out the darkness of ignorance and liberating all beings in the ultimate Clear Light of Enlightenment.

With blessings from the Guru and the Lineage.

On 22th February 2010, the Eight day of the First Month of the Tibetan calendar, Drubchen (Great Accomplishment Practice) based on Palchen Dupa deity was started. On Tsechu, the tenth day of the same month, Cham or mask dances of the eight manifestations of Guru Rinpoche were performed before the giant thangka (scroll painting) of Guru Rinpoche, displayed to devotees in the morning. HE Gyangkhang Tulku Rinpoche and HE Muksang Kuchen Rinpoche presided over the Cham ceremony.

During the Drubchen, Khenchen Pema Sherab and Khenpos as well as Tulkus gave teachings based on the various aspects of Buddhist practice to lay people who assembled to recite vajra guru mantras.

At 3 am on the 16th day, the siddhi or the spiritual attainment of the Drubchen was taken by all the drupchen practitioners after which a giant thangka of Amitayuus was displayed followed by mask dances. A large crowd of people both ordained and lay gathered for this auspicious occasion. Drubwang or the empowerment of the drupchen was conferred to all the laypeople that were present. HE Gyangkhang Tulku Rinpoche and Khenchen Pema Sherab presided over the ceremony.

In the evening, the monks conducted the Butter Lamp Offering Prayer and made auspicious prayers thus concluding the drupchen.
